The course on xtrain I think I learned the most from is Bryan Peterson's on How to run a graphic design business. When I first applied to work for this company, I went to the website and saw his faculty profile. It made a huge impression on me because he actually wrote 2 of my textbooks! "Design Basics for Creative Results" was being used in both of my design classes at the time and my professors spoke very highly of it as a reference. Aside from the shock of mere coincidence, I was pretty impressed. So when he taught a class on how to run a design company, it was information that was right up my ally. No one really outlines for you how the business works. I mean, I've learned plenty about how to assemble a layout, but what next? It's weird because many of my friends are art students looking to go into the design field too, and when we discuss our portfolios I feel like I have a leg up. They can speculate about what's important to an employer but I know for a fact, straight from the source. I don't know if I'll ever work as a freelance graphic designer, but the ways he discusses the business it truly gives me an idea about how it all works. I know how to format my portfolio now, and what really counts when it comes to a job interview. Thank you so much for this course. --- Testimonial from Tina, Birmingham AL
One thing I've discovered in the many online forums in which I participate is the number of people who are astounded by the simple photos I spend a few short minutes on in Photoshop doing touch-ups. They make comments like "Wow, I'm so amazed at the Photoshop skills people have!" or "I really wish I could do that," but surrendering to the impression they could never learn for whatever reason. The fact is, learning how to do photo touch-ups is not only simple, it's not even very time-consuming! I've learned the skills I use regularly in minutes, just watching a tutorial here and there where someone can show me the ropes. Then, I spend a little bit of time in Photoshop practicing what I've learned, and I have it down! I want everyone to understand how easy it is, as long as they have the proper tools at hand. I usually recommend Ben Willmore's Course and several tips from Rob Sheppard's classes on how to take images and make them cool like mine.
Dallas, TX (November 16, 2007)– xTrain.com, a leader in online video training for media, arts, and design, is pleased to announce today the latest installment of their free Dr. Brown’s Photoshop Laboratory Classes featuring Photoshop Guru Russell Brown. This new xTrain™ class “The Good, the Bad, the Ugly” features professional portrait retouching tips and techniques made easy by the comical and entertaining “Dr. Brown.”

“This fun and exciting class features all of the professional techniques that anyone using Adobe Photoshop needs to know to make their portraits better than real life,” said Siotha Vest, xTrain’s Director of Training. “This latest addition to Russell Brown’s classes on xTrain provides our students with solid instruction enabling them to master Photoshop CS3 without the boredom of typical online video training.”

In this new class, Dr. Brown provides several insider secrets for retouching portraits such as whitening teeth and eyes, enhancing eyelashes, reducing 5 o’clock shadow, removing wrinkles, and color correcting skin tones all within Adobe Photoshop. Dr. Brown uses multiple blending techniques, healing brushes, and the Auto Blending layers to accomplish his retouching effects. These techniques are all focused on throughout the show, with some fun antics mixed in along the way.

With the philosophy, "Learning about Adobe Photoshop should never be boring," Russell Brown and xTrain have created several other exciting classes on topics such as 3-D Experiments, Black and White Experiments, and Animation Experiments. During these training sessions students can discover how to import 3 dimensional vector art then adjust size, tinker with lighting effects, and manipulate tiny vectors; learn to transform their images into creative black-and-white masterpieces; or discover how to quickly edit movie frames in Photoshop CS3 Extended Edition, control timelines, learn motion blur techniques and even import sounds.
